What’s the movie about?
Amber Appleton (Auli’i Cravalho) remains an optimist, even though her personal life is far less stable than it seems at first glance. A musically gifted high school student with a desire to attend Carnegie Mellon, Amber balances her beloved high school drama club, run by Mr. Franks (Fred Armisen), with long hours working in a donut store to support herself and her underprivileged single mother (Justina Machado). She also spends time in the local nursing home community and cares for her pessimistic favorite resident (Carol Burnett). As new obstacles emerge that threaten her dreams, Amber must learn to rely on the strength of her chosen family to move forward.
